Overview / What This Opportunity Entails
The regional team leads Front Line Defenders’ work in the region, defining priorities, directing protection responses, and ensuring resources are deployed for maximum impact. The Protection Coordinator (PC) will lead responses to human rights defenders at risk, manage relationships, and provide expert input into advocacy and protection grants.
Role Responsibilities
- Connect with human rights defenders at risk, applying an intersectional lens, and sustain secure communications.
- Provide rapid response to cases of human rights defenders at immediate risk.
- Provide expert input to advocacy, visibility, capacity building, and protection grants programmes.
- Support outreach to women and non-binary human rights defenders and conduct gendered analysis.
- Lead or collaborate on research on protection-related issues.
- Develop and maintain contacts with regional organizations.
- Collaborate with the regional team and lead annual planning of activities in the region.
Requirements / Self-Qualification
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to deliver accurate, objective information in high-pressure situations.
- Knowledge of key human rights trends and contexts in the region.
- Ability to work well with diverse cultures and maintain clear boundaries.
- Knowledge of resiliency and well-being practices for HRDs.
- Basic knowledge of digital security tools and online threats.
- At least 5 years of experience working with a diverse range of human rights defenders.
- Strong understanding of risks faced by women and LGBTIQ+ defenders.
- Experience with analytical writing, reporting, and research.
- Experience working with diverse teams in emergency settings.
