Overview / What This Opportunity Entails
African agrifood systems face severe pressures from climate variability, declining natural resources, food insecurity, and fragmented agricultural data. While AI and digital tools offer massive potential to boost productivity and resilience, many promising innovations remain stuck at the pilot stage without being integrated into national extension systems.
The 3rd Edition of the Innovate Africa Challenge bridges this gap by validating and deploying a mature, AI-driven climate-smart solution into real-world farming environments. In partnership with national ministries (Agriculture, ICT, Innovation), FAO country offices, and Smart Africa, the winning innovation will be deployed to deliver measurable benefits directly to smallholder farmers.

The challenge supports startups deploying AI-driven solutions across five core agricultural pillars:

- Funding Stage: Pre-seed funded up to a maximum of Series A funding.
- Operational Readiness: Possess a working, deployment-ready AI solution with proven operational experience (e.g., active pilots, existing deployments, or paying customers).
- Governance Compliance: Adhere strictly to data protection, farmer consent, privacy, and responsible AI principles.
